Goodyear has carried out a study in collaboration with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), with the aim of understanding drivers’ attitudes towards the arrival of autonomous cars. This research, conducted in 11 European countries, reveals how drivers would spend the time they would save by driving a 100% autonomous vehicle.

Part of this study was already discussed a few days ago, focusing on which countries are best prepared for autonomous driving. The result was that we Spaniards are the fourth most prepared country for autonomous mobility.

The results of this study indicate that 54% of the Spanish respondents would spend their time talking to the other passengers in an autonomous car. Browsing the internet is the second most popular activity (37%) among Spaniards, followed by sending messages or talking on the phone (36%). 27% of the Spanish drivers surveyed would read a book, and 25% would take the opportunity to check their email and reply to messages. Finally, only 18% would be delighted to sleep or watch a film during their journeys in an autonomous car.

Goodyear’s study also gathers drivers’ opinions on the features they believe autonomous cars should have. The top priority for the Spaniards surveyed is protecting the environment (68%), followed by the ability to communicate with other vehicles on the road (52%) and being electric (48%).

“It is very positive to see that Spanish drivers care about autonomous cars being environmentally friendly. At Goodyear we strive to manufacture greener tyres, both in their materials, their performance and their manufacturing process,” said Alberto Granadino, General Manager of Goodyear Dunlop Iberia.
