Barcelona Motor Show 2009: Lexus

Lexus’s luxury division brought two Spanish premieres to Barcelona: the new generation of the RX SUV, of which the hybrid variant was on display, and the IS 250C convertible. On its own stand, separate from the other halls, visitors could also see two more models from its hybrid range: the GS 450h and the LS 600h, reinforcing the luxury that inspires the brand.
The RX 450h, unveiled for the first time at the Los Angeles Show last year, features the second generation of the Lexus Hybrid Drive technology and represents the pinnacle of Lexus performance. It combines a 3.5i V6 petrol engine with 24 valves producing 245 hp with two electric motors, which generate 168 hp, for a combined total output of 299 hp. The latter are also capable of providing an “intelligent” electric all-wheel drive. Together they consume 6.3 litres per 100 km and emit 148 grams of CO2 per km, making it the leader in its category.

This generation of the SUV features a new double wishbone rear suspension that delivers saloon-like behaviour at high speed while also providing stability and efficiency off the tarmac. Furthermore, its active anti-roll bar system reduces body roll in corners by 40%, and the electronically controlled air suspension can lower the ride height by up to 60 millimetres even at speed, benefiting aerodynamics and consumption.
The hybrid version of the new RX is distinguished from the petrol model by its front grille and some badges. Inside, the cabin has a new control layout, as well as a head-up display, multi-information controls on the steering wheel and a remote control for the on-board computer. In terms of safety, in addition to ten airbags, the RX 450h has an advanced VDIM stability control and a pre-collision system developed by Toyota.
It will go on sale in Spain this summer in three trim levels: Premium, Luxury and President, the latter being the most generously equipped. Prices range from €65,900 for the first to €84,550 for the last. The Premium already includes as standard features such as hill-start assist, bi-xenon headlights, a rear-view camera for parking assistance and heated electric front seats.

As for the IS 250C, we already reported on it when it was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last year in October, but we can now add that it will be available in Spain from this summer and that in the future it may be fitted with an exterior accessories package from the F-Sport range.
