Bentley Flying Spur Blackline, a new package adding sportiness and aggression

The new Bentley Flying Spur removes the chrome trim thanks to the Blackline package, something the brand has already done with considerable success on the Continental GT

The year 2019 brought a new generation to the Bentley Flying Spur, in which its image is now further reinforced, perhaps even more opulent thanks to the design language Bentley adopts for the new Flying Spur, with horizontal lines that lend it a more modern look, all complemented by the extreme luxury and fine craftsmanship of the brand and, as could only be expected, a powerful heart beneath its bonnet.

But surely those among Bentley’s customers who find this third generation of the Flying Spur too sober, in need of a touch of “street” attitude to bring out the other side of this vehicle, that of a Grand Tourer with a sporting soul, will be the ones the brand is targeting. For all these customers, the brand offers the new Blackline package, just as it has been doing on the Continental GT with very good results, which will undoubtedly give the new Flying Spur a far more menacing and imposing presence.

On the new Bentley Flying Spur Blackline, we can see that the vast majority of exterior chrome has disappeared apart from a few small details. Let’s not be fooled, however: the meticulous work of Bentley’s craftsmen is still very much present, as all these elements are now finished in intense black. In this way, the enormous grille, the lower bumper grille, the surround of the grille, the gills and side mouldings, the window frames, the rear mouldings and the exhaust tips and, even, the Flying B badge are all finished in this colour.

To all this must be added the 21-inch wheels, which also feature black details, although customers may optionally replace them with another design in 22-inch size. It should also be said that the Blackline package can be combined with the extensive colour palette Bentley offers on the Flying Spur, comprising 17 standard colours and another 13 special colours for greater personalisation. Inside, the changes affect only the logo on the steering wheel, a constant reminder of the Blackline package, as the rest of the interior is so exquisitely finished that it needs no embellishment.

Mechanically, there are no changes to the Bentley Flying Spur Blackline either, so under its bonnet we find the familiar W12 TSI twin-turbo engine of 6.0 litres with a power output of 635 CV and a substantial torque figure of 900 Nm, coupled to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox by ZF, which sends power preferentially to the rear axle. With these figures, the Flying Spur can accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 333 km/h.
