BMW helps develop cars with open-source platforms

The operating systems used in cars vary from company to company, but BMW wants to cooperate on the development of an open-source platform based on Linux, which would help make efficient use of the advantages of the services offered by Google and Wind River.
Using Linux as a base would allow hardware and gadget manufacturers, as well as software developers, to easily adapt their products to any brand, since they would all be focused on a single OS.
Some car manufacturers such as General Motors and Chrysler are interested in the project, while Honda and Ford use Microsoft’s OS because it keeps up with the current market, and others simply don’t care about the issue.
