BMW M8 Concept: a 600 CV plug-in hybrid

Ahead of its first centenary, BMW is preparing a new launch: the M8. It will be a highly powerful plug-in hybrid supercar, housing a 600 CV heart by combining its V8 engine with the electric motor.

In just three years’ time, BMW will turn 100. As a birthday present, the German manufacturer is preparing a formidable supercar that will deliver 600 CV. Friedrich Nitschke, head of BMW’s ///M division, has commented that this new model will be based on what they already have in the i8: a hybrid powertrain built from aluminium and carbon fibre.

At its heart will beat a powerful V8 engine which, combined with an electric motor that is no less impressive, will produce an exquisite 600 CV, allowing it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just three seconds. Pushing it to the limit could see it reach 320 km/h…

One of the fundamental aspects of the new M8 will be weight reduction. Apparently, the German car will end up being lighter than the Ferrari 458 or the Audi R8, which would put it at the forefront against its closest rivals.

We’ll see whether this concept finally makes it to production. For now, we’ll have to make do with this image gallery and the few details we know so far.
