BMW X4 M40i, 360 hp for the cheekiest X4

The BMW X4 is the second member of the family of coupé-bodied SUVs that the German manufacturer has spent years developing alongside its sibling, the X6.
The X4, a small-scale X6, now receives a more powerful version signed by M, designed to satisfy the speed cravings of the most racing-minded drivers.
Currently, the BMW X4 offers a wide range of power outputs, from the 184 of the 20i version up to the 313 of the 35d variant. We therefore have a great variety of alternatives that will surely cover the needs of the vast majority of potential buyers.

However, for the people at BMW nothing is ever enough, so they have decided to launch an even more powerful version, this time with help from their M performance division, resulting in what has been named the X4 M40i. It is a model that sits halfway between a traditional BMW and a true M, much like other cars from the brand such as the M135i or M550d.

Aesthetically, the X4 M40i barely differs from its siblings in the range when they fit the M exterior package, as both the bumpers and the side skirts are exactly the same. The only difference at the front is found in some small chrome trim pieces, while at the rear the more observant will notice that the X4 M40i features an exhaust outlet on each side, making it the only model in the range with this configuration. The wheels, on the other hand, are exclusive to this version.

The interior sees no changes, since both the sports seats and the M sport steering wheel can be fitted to the brand’s other models as long as you choose the M interior package. Mechanically, the X4 M40i uses a 3.0-litre six-cylinder inline petrol engine, turbocharged, paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It delivers 360 hp and 465 Nm, enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
