Cadillac BLS production ends

Cadillac_BLS

This news was expected, and according to statements by Klaus-Peter Martin to the magazine Autotelegraaf, the Cadillac BLS is no longer in production, and the last Cadillac BLS was built in July of last year. With very low sales, the end of BLS production should come as no surprise to anyone, and the brand’s forecast of selling 10,000 units a year was never remotely achieved.

The Cadillac BLS arrived in 2005 and was built in Trollhättan (Sweden), the plant that produces the Saab 9-3, the car it shared its platform, engine, propulsion system (remember that the BLS had front-wheel drive) and a series of interior elements with, all supplied by the Swedish saloon.

With only four years on the market (three if we count the date the last BLS left production), the American saloon designed for Europe never found a good reception, it was a Saab with a different shape, and the loss of the Cadillac heritage did not help sales either, since rear-wheel drive would have been better received. Not even the Wagon variant could turn the BLS’s sales around.

Furthermore, Martin said that they will focus heavily on the Cadillac CTS,a model that is difficult to position in the European market and on which all of the brand’s efforts are concentrated. The Cadillac CTS will have a Wagon version, and even a diesel version equipped with a new 2.9-litre V6 engine. And to fill the gap left by the BLS, Cadillac is working on a compact with rear-wheel drive, the details of which we do not yet know.
