ChatGPT comes to General Motors models: the artificial intelligence on board its cars

ChatGPT could soon arrive in General Motors models, as the group wants to integrate it into the equipment of its new vehicles.

Many current models feature a voice control system, which controls several of its elements. The sound system volume, the climate control, raising and lowering the windows… All of this is controlled with voice commands that the onboard computer recognises and allows it to carry out the instruction. But today there is a technology that surpasses the one equipped in these models, and General Motors wants to implement it in its newest models.

Artificial intelligence is increasingly integrated into everyone’s daily life, even though we don’t notice it. One of the most widely used artificial intelligence software programs is ChatGPT. This allows a coherent conversation to be held with the artificial intelligence, as if it were with a human. ChatGPT could be in the future models of Ford, to help the driver improve the driving experience.

With the incorporation of this intelligent conversation system, General Motors models will have a greater capacity to understand the vehicle’s occupants and will be able to hold conversations with them. This may seem irrelevant, but the application could be made to control the car’s elements, but also to report on various circumstances related to the car’s operation in real time.

This could replace the classic vehicle instruction manual or, at the very least, serve as a complement to it so that it can be used at any time if necessary. In addition, thanks to the vehicle’s ADAS sensors, it could answer questions about the environment the vehicle is moving through, at the occupants’ request.

The usefulness of ChatGPT will be broader, since thanks to it the car could be programmed to open the garage door, integrate schedules into the owner’s personal agenda, and other functions that will improve the use of the vehicle. This feature is intended to be integrated into the group’s electric vehicles, but it is expected to be present in all of them in the near future.

Let us remember that General Motors is about to return to the European market with these electric models, so it is likely that they will already be equipped with ChatGPT when they begin to be sold on our continent.
