Chris Harris gets behind the wheel of the Audi A1 Quattro
Chris Harris heads to Sweden and tests the Audi A1 Quattro

While we wait for the Audi A1 Quattro to arrive in our country (and for the chance to get our hands on one, of course), we make do with a bit of action from across the Channel. Chris Harris travelled to Sweden to attend the presentation of the new quattro, in conditions where the all-wheel drive of the smaller model would presumably prove its worth.
Along with the chance to take a few laps in the snow with Stig Blomqvist and his Audi Quattro rally car, the A1 hasn’t disappointed, although according to Harris, it is a car that goes fast, really fast, but not fast enough to be a game changer in the segment it competes in.
According to Harris, the car is brilliant on the frozen lake where the presentation was held. It showed no oversteer whatsoever, exposing the Achilles’ heel of the Haldex traction system, which is too biased toward favouring the front axle when distributing torque and does so at the wrong moments.
