Citroën gives more details on the DS4 and DS5

The French manufacturer has released more information about the upcoming models of the new luxury range represented by the letters “DS”. While the DS3 (production version of the DS Inside prototype) will be a luxurious interpretation of the second generation of the C3, the DS4 and DS5, despite sharing mechanicals with the C4 and C5, will have nothing to do with them.

The DS4 will have a design inspired by the C-Sportlounge prototype, which is the one in the image above, and will be positioned in the segment of compact crossovers such as the Peugeot 3008. On the other hand, the Hypnos prototype, presented at the Paris Motor Show last year, will serve as the aesthetic reference for the DS5. This model will be, as Citroën mentions, a vehicle similar to the BMW X6, that is, a SUV with a coupé line.

The DS5, however, will not have, when it reaches the road, the rear suicide doors nor the chameleon paint of the upholstery that the Hypnos had, but it could inherit the hybrid powertrain that combined a diesel engine with an electric one.

These two models will go on sale in 2011, but by then the DS3 will have been on the road for almost two years, since its production version is expected to be presented at the next Frankfurt Motor Show in September alongside that of the new C3. Both will share mechanicals, but Citroën says that will be the only thing they will have in common. For example, the C3 will have five doors, while the DS3 will have three, as well as higher-quality finishes. Finally, it has been confirmed that the C3 Pluriel will have no successor, and its life cycle will end in November of this year.
