Could the Mini Rocketman Concept go into production?

Something is happening inside Mini regarding the Rocketman Concept, according to its chief designer. Could they be considering putting it into production?

A car as historic as the Mini and as representative of BMW received a new concept model earlier this year, called Mini Rocketman Concept, which we showed you at this year’s Geneva show. Now it seems that Mini is considering, or at least there is a good chance it will, building the Rocketman.

According to Anders Warming, Mini’s chief design officer, the Rocketman Concept is on “his Christmas list”, which could offer some tentative hint that this revolutionary Mini might be considered by the board of BMW for production.

The Rocketman turns out to be the Mini that has packed the most novelties into the brand, most of them technological innovations that affect the car’s overall ergonomics. For example, the tailgate, split into two parts and sliding outwards, or the possibility of removing the central control unit from the car so it can be configured on a computer and its software updated.

On the other hand, the roof lights up and is entirely glass. The lighting is achieved through a series of bars representing the British flag. This measure was conceived to convey a striking image as well as to provide light inside the cabin, which can take several spatial configurations to carry up to 4 people.
