CUPRA and SEAT sold more than 125,000 vehicles in the first quarter of 2023
The two brands have come close to matching the sales figure achieved in the first quarter of 2019 and expect 2023 to close with an increase in sales.

The two Spanish brands, under the umbrella of the Grupo Volkswagen, have announced their vehicle sales figures for the first quarter of 2023. And they are not bad at all, although they have not reached the level of what was sold in the same period of 2019. That was the last year considered “normal”, before the pandemic restrictions began.
The results show the sale of 125,200 vehicles during the first three months of this year. Compared with 2022, that is 37% more, which is not bad at all. In 2019, just over 150,000 vehicles were sold, so the figure is close to returning to pre-pandemic levels.

It is interesting to see that electric vehicles have recorded sales of 9,200 units. That is not bad, considering there is only one model of this type in the CUPRA and SEAT range. It is the CUPRA Born. It represents an increase of 318% compared with 2022 and, within the brands’ overall sales, accounts for 7.3%, compared with 2.4% last year.
However, although it is a very positive figure, it falls well short when compared with the units delivered of the Volkswagen ID.3, which is also based on the MEB platform. This sister model of the CUPRA Born has managed to add up 23,600 units. This model is manufactured at the Zwickau plant, together with the Born.
Expectations for CUPRA are quite high, since in 2022 a total of 31,400 electric units were sold, which represents 8.1% of total sales. The arrival of the CUPRA Tavascan, the brand’s second electric vehicle, will take place during 2024, so it will not have much impact on sales recorded in 2023.
