Automotive companies that cover several commercial sectors tend to enjoy great success. This is because these types of vehicles have been present in the market for years, which has given them enough time to make a name for themselves in the motor world. This is the case of Mercedes-Benz, a company that has been developing trucks since the 19th century. In this way, the German firm has been able to improve little by little, to such an extent that it now achieves a gigantic number of truck sales.

Specifically, it was in 1896 that Mercedes built its first truck. Today, the firm with the star has numerous models designed to meet all the needs of companies looking to buy a vehicle geared towards transport. Vans, trucks and buses are all part of its fleet, which has allowed it to close the year with more than 400,000 sales in the truck segment.

The 465,000 trucks sold in 2017 represent an increase of 12% year on year. In 2016, the German firm managed to sell a total of 415,100 trucks, demonstrating the great boom in this sector and how it can overcome many situations of economic hardship. At the same time, this is not only thanks to the experience Mercedes has in developing trucks, but also to the large increase in sales that has occurred in different parts of the world.

Mainly, the North American market has shown great interest in the trucks of the firm with the star, showing significant growth since the beginning of the year. In this region, sales have also risen by 12% compared with 2016, a considerable success given the large volume of trucks sold in the United States. In this case, one of Daimler’s most successful models has been the Freightliner Cascadia, which began production in early 2017.

However, the United States has not been the only market in which German trucks have experienced strong success. This growth is also reflected in Europe and Latin America. On our continent, Mercedes-Benz remains the leader with a total of 73,600 trucks sold, with Germany, the brand’s country of origin, being one of the most important sales hubs. At the same time, Argentina and Brazil have the highest number of sales of Daimler trucks, with 5,200 and 12,200 units sold respectively.

But this is not the only thing the star brand has planned, since throughout 2018 it intends to present the first 100% electric truck from Mercedes. In this way, the number of emissions produced by this type of vehicle will be reduced to zero and, at the same time, a significant saving will be achieved by being able to do without petrol.
