De Tomaso P72, a tribute limited to 72 units
De Tomaso P72, this is the name given to the new model from the legendary brand
De Tomaso has officially come back to life, just in time to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the brand. This rebirth comes with a new vehicle that pays tribute to the De Tomaso P70 prototype and is called De Tomaso P72.
Unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the new De Tomaso P72, clearly inspired by the racing cars of the 1960s, has been designed as “a classic for today”.

Ryan Berris, general manager of De Tomaso, has pointed out that “in a similar way, the De Tomaso Pantera created a new category when it debuted in 1970, the P72 will create its own new benchmark”. “We have created a machine for today that pays homage to an integral part of history and a car with its own provenance”.

De Tomaso returns with the P72
The iconic Italian brand is being relaunched by the same team behind Apollo Automobili, Ideal Team Ventures, ITV, which acquired the De Tomaso rights in 2014.
The new De Tomaso P72 has officially drawn its inspiration from the prototype called P70 that never materialised, a collaboration project between Alejandro De Tomaso and Carroll Shelby dating back to 1964.

The lines of the new De Tomaso P72 captivate everyone, and its endless curves are mesmerising. The sports car’s cabin seems to be made of jewels, with bright copper and polished diamond details found everywhere, from the round analogue clocks to the centre of the steering wheel and the gear lever for the manual transmission with its exposed linkage.
The return of De Tomaso will apparently be very analogue, but the company has preferred to keep all the technical details secret for now. However, we do know that the P72 is based on the same carbon monocoque chassis as the Apollo Intensa Emozione.

Given that the Apollo IE uses a naturally aspirated V12 engine of origin Ferrari, should we expect the same for the De Tomaso P72? The possibility of using a V8 is also quite strong, since we are talking about De Tomaso, a brand that made its name using American eight-cylinder engines in its well-defined designs.
It is important to highlight that De Tomaso will build only 72 units of its new De Tomaso P72, with prices starting at 750,000 euros and reaching up to 845,000 euros. The company has already started accepting reservations from around the world, which confirms that the De Tomaso P72 will finally be homologated for markets such as Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America.
