Denza X: the new Chinese SUV "Made in Mercedes-Benz"
The Denza X is a new Chinese-origin SUV with a design signed by the design team of Mercedes-Benz and it will come in two versions: a PHEV and an EV.
Earlier this year, the Chinese brand Denza unveiled a new SUV-styled concept designed by Mercedes-Benz. This would be really strange if it weren’t for the fact that the company is jointly owned in equal parts by BYD and Daimler AG.
Not long after, Denza has already revealed the production version of this attractive crossover. Its name will be Denza X and it shows a look very similar to that of the prototype.
An image “Made in Mercedes-Benz”
As we said before, it was the design team of Mercedes-Benz that took care of designing the Denza X. If we take a visual look at the images the company has shared, a front end with sharp shapes stands out, ending in slim headlights. In addition, the spotlight goes to the brand’s badge at the top of the front bumper.
The front bumper features generous air intakes at the ends and another one at the bottom. As for its profile, it has a raised hip line and metallic-finish moldings that frame its windows. The lower section is finished with black plastic cladding. Furthermore, its huge two-tone wheels and the powerful braking system signed by Brembo catch the eye.
The rear is somewhat reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz EQC that we were able to test at its official presentation. There is a spoiler at the top of the tailgate and the attractive design of its rear lights joined by an LED strip, which follows the current trend. At the bottom of the bumper, there is a diffuser with a metallic finish and an LED bar in its center.
One of the main features of the Denza X is that it has three rows of seats, so it can accommodate up to seven occupants. However, the spotlight inside goes to the large screen of the infotainment system, whose orientation can be changed to set it horizontally or vertically. It also features a digital cockpit.
The Denza X will be electrified
The Denza X can be chosen with two powertrains: a plug-in hybrid and a fully electric one. The PHEV will feature a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with a turbocharger producing 192 CV and two electric motors, one on each axle. The electric motor on the front axle delivers 148 CV, while the rear axle has an electric motor producing 242 CV.
With this combination, the Denza X has a total output of no less than 396 CV, so the brand promises it reaches 100 km/h from a standstill in less than 5 seconds; now we understand why it has Brembo brakes…
On the other hand, the electric Denza X will feature an electric motor producing 242 CV and a range of 500 kilometers under the NEDC cycle. The company will provide more details about its launch next month, although we can already tell you that it will only be sold in China and that deliveries will begin in early 2020, so it will have to compete with models such as the Byton M-Byte.
