Exeo, that is what Seat will call its new saloon

Seat Exeo

Neither Toledo nor Bolero: the name finally chosen by the Martorell brand for its new saloon is Exeo. This new model, which will arrive in 2009, let us recall, will be based on the previous generation of the Audi A4 to the current one, a fact it will take advantage of to establish itself as a dynamic vehicle of higher quality.

Three-box saloons were for a long time indispensable members of the Seat range, but with the arrival of the latest Toledo they have realised that they lost their way a little. Their closeness to an MPV and their peculiar rear end have made them only marginally successful with customers who are not… taxi drivers.

The new name comes from the Latin “Exire“, meaning “to go beyond” or “to go further”. It sets it apart from the other names in the range and marks the start of a new era for the company.

And indeed, with this they break the tradition of recent years: giving names of Spanish towns. But that is the least of it: Seat needs a thorough renewal beyond the León and the Ibiza, which are — for the moment — the only models that keep the brand truly alive and strong.

Even so, the Exeo will not replace the Toledo as some might expect. The press release covers its bases and denies it, adding that the Exeo will be a D-segment model, not a C like the Toledo. Even so… fancy a bet on how long it will stay in production? I don’t think more than a year after the Exeo’s launch.
