Fast & Furious Hobbs & Shaw: Is it worthy of the saga?
Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw is the ninth film in the famous saga and it is now in cinemas: Has the saga returned the way it deserves?
The ninth film in one of the most famous and cult-favourite sagas among motor enthusiasts has already been unveiled: Fast & Furious. Its title is Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw and it promises action and excitement in abundance. What’s more, we recently learned that the franchise is preparing an animated series based on the film.
However, purists of this series will recognise very little of what was in those films we remember. To begin with, Toretto and company will not be present in the new film, and the car tuning theme has gone the way of the dodo to become a film halfway between Mad Max and Rambo.
So the scenes in which the chases were caused by an illegal street race through the city centre are gone. Gone too are the Nissan Skyline R-34, the Toyota Supra of which a 605-horsepower replica was sold, the Mitsubishi Eclipse, the Mazda RX-7 and the Honda Civic that made us go straight to the nearest Norauto to check how much neon light bars cost.

Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw is another film
The leads of Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw are Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham, two of Hollywood’s “tough guys” who were undoubtedly born to work together. The former had already made several appearances in the saga and the latter did so in the eighth film. However, Statham has the makings of a lead in films that blend cars with action, something he demonstrated especially in the Transporter saga.
The ninth Fast & Furious film centres on Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), a Diplomatic Security Agent who ends up forming an alliance with Decker Shaw (Jason Statham). The two must protect the world from the attacks of Brixton, a cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist (the only tuning you’ll see in the film) who manages to steal a biological weapon in order to destroy planet Earth.
We’re going to leave you the trailer so you can judge for yourselves, but if we talk about the cars objectively, the only recognisable one you’ll see is a McLaren 570S. The rest are spectacular four-wheeled machines built to perform millions of barrel rolls and still arrive home intact.
Now you can head to your favourite cinema, buy popcorn and sit in the big armchair to watch the new Fast & Furious film. Our recommendation is that you forget its name and enjoy the screening: if you go expecting a car film, you will surely be enormously disappointed; if you think you’re going to watch an action film, you’ll most likely have as much fun as a kid.
