Fernando Alonso and the Gazoo Racing drivers, at the wheel of the Toyota Supra
The official Toyota drivers put the Toyota Supra to the test
It is clear that the revival of this sports car arouses great curiosity, so it is even more interesting that professional drivers are the ones who put the Toyota Supra to the test. All the more so because among them are several drivers who have won races in their discipline, and even world titles.
This is the case of, for example, Kris Meeke, Jari-Matti Latvala and Ott Tänak, drivers of the Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team, who have won World Rally Championship events and, in the case of the Estonian, who led the standings after the Mexican round held last weekend; or Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima, the brand’s drivers in the World Endurance Championship, who this weekend will face the 1000 miles of the spectacular Sebring Circuit at the wheel of their LMP1 Toyota TS050, a car they will share with Fernando Alonso, the popular and victorious Spanish driver.
At the wheel of the Toyota Supra
The Japanese sports car has returned to the spotlight thanks to the new generation of this icon which, almost 20 years after the previous one, this fifth generation has reappeared, not without controversy.
To demonstrate that a car can be a true sports car without needing enormous power figures, the Toyota Gazoo Racing drivers take the wheel and enjoy a test drive of the Toyota Supra.
The fact is that this car aims to win over its future customers through driving excitement, a balance between an engine with the appropriate power, an efficient transmission, sporty dynamics and, why not, a good ambient sound.
The new Toyota Supra
Like essences preserved in small jars, this two-seater measures 4.38 metres in length, 1.85 in width and 1.29 in height. In principle, the version that will reach the roads from this summer at a price above 60,000 euros features a BMW engine block, an inline six-cylinder engine displacing 2,998 cc, producing 500 Nm of torque and 340 CV, to move a kerb weight of 1,595 kg.
The engine’s output is sent to the rear axle, which is why this Toyota Supra is a rear-wheel-drive car. It also features an eight-speed automatic gearbox with torque converter, operated through the gear lever or the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.
The two-time champion testing a car that claims his crown
Little needs to be said to introduce Fernando Alonso, and much to summarise his long and celebrated career. Let us simply say that the 37-year-old Asturian has been twice Formula 1 World Champion, in 2005 and 2006, and that, in 2018, he achieved another accomplishment that many dream of and few attain: victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
A driver who has raced single-seaters, touring cars and prototypes, and who is widely recognised as as demanding as he is competitive, a driver with a personal garage so enviable that, after the Toyota Supra test, he will surely add this sports car to his personal collection. Even more so when listening to his impressions during this test, but above all observing his reactions and his face in the moments of maximum satisfaction.

As you have seen and heard after the Toyota Supra test, Fernando Alonso himself describes it as a car of emotions, satisfaction, fascinating.
