Fiat purchase of VM Motori

Many of you may not know the company VM Motori, but if we talk about the diesel engines that powered the vast majority of Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep in Europe, it will sound more familiar. The engine company was 50% owned by Fiat and General Motors, but Fiat has bought the remaining 100% for 34 million euros.
VM engines were also used in models from Opel, Land Rover and several brands of the Fiat Group. Meanwhile, today’s Chevrolet diesels also used the 2.0 diesel engine of VM origin. Furthermore, it will be the factory that supplies the new diesel engine for the Maserati Ghibli with 275 CV.
VM Motori was founded 66 years ago, starting out by manufacturing engines for boats, and today it is dedicated to producing a large share of the diesel engines running across Europe. It seems that General Motors, besides withdrawing Chevrolet from Europe, is no longer interested in keeping a stake in this diesel engine factory, a company it acquired in 1995 and came to fully own through Detroit Diesel.
