Final car sales figures in Europe for 2011
ACEA has released the total sales figures for the whole of 2011. The Volkswagen group was the star of the year, with more than 3 million units sold, while the dominant market was Germany, with more than 3 million vehicles sold in 2011.

ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association) has published its final vehicle sales figures across Europe for 2011, revealing that all manufacturers together sold 13,111,209 vehicles from January to December, compared with 13,343,302 for the whole of 2010. The decline was 1.7%.
As an illustration of the strength of the Volkswagen group, the German conglomerate sold 3,045,000 vehicles, while the Volkswagen brand alone accounted for 1,622,000 vehicles sold, almost the same figure as the entire PSA group, which includes Peugeot and Citroën: 1,643,160.

The vehicles that sold least were the models imported from GM in the USA, such as the Camaro and the Corvette: just 440 units in the whole of last year. Among other curiosities of this industry’s ups and downs, the Jeep brand sold fewer cars than the Jaguar brand, despite the British marque offering models that are not for those on a tight budget.
Among the Japanese brands, Toyota and Nissan almost share the lead, while Suzuki has not done too badly, even though all its models have to be imported from Japan, since it is ahead of Honda, which remarkably ends up with just 141,000 vehicles sold.
The country that topped the table all year was Germany, with a total of 3,173,634 vehicles, while Latvia was the smallest market, with 8,849. In Spain, we finished with a total of 808,059 vehicles sold.
