First hybrid SUVs from Chrysler enter production

After almost a year of waiting, the Chrysler Aspen and the Dodge Durango have started being built, and the company has confirmed that the cars’ efficiency reaches up to 10.69 l/100 km in the city.
Both models feature a 5-litre Hemi V8 engine equipped with cylinder deactivation technology, which delivers a peak output of 385 CV and 515 Nm.
The hybrid system used in the cars is the result of the collaboration between GM, BMW and Daimler, and integrates an automatic gearbox together with an electric-hybrid drive system.
Production of the two SUVs is scheduled to go on sale next year, but according to dealer network reports they could start before the end of 2008, at a price of €33,620 in the case of the Durango and €33,790 for the Aspen.
