The world-leading component company for the MX-5 Flyin Miata has created a tuned version with a 520 hp V8 engine. The modified MX-5 costs $50,000, which at current exchange rates amounts to an investment of roughly €45,000. Considering that the base version of this model (131 CV) costs €23,000, the Flying Miata kit would cost around €22,000.
This tuned Mazda MX-5 weighs 1,088 kilograms, 122 kg more than the standard model, and the most significant revision is in the engine, where a four-cylinder unit of between 130 and 160 CV is replaced by a 6.2-litre V8 producing 520 hp and reaching 6,600 rpm. The upgrade package also includes a reworked transmission, competition suspension from the Foxtrot Racing brand, and hydraulic steering in place of the standard electric system. It also features more powerful brakes, larger tyres and the differential from a Chevrolet Camaro.
During the test carried out by the team at “The SmokingTire”, they state that, despite the weight of the V8 engine, the car does not display nose-heavy behaviour in corners or a front end that tends to understeer. On the contrary, the dynamic capabilities of this MX-5 maintain the balance of the standard model.
