Opel announces seven new models for 2017, including its first electric car. The Opel Ampera-E will offer a revolutionary range of 500 km.

The German brand plans to renew its identity with 29 new models by 2020.

Opel has announced the arrival of seven new models for 2017. The German brand will present new models across all market segments, renewing its product range and adding new models. But that is not all: this Opel campaign is part of a programme that aims to give the brand a complete turnaround. To that end, the company plans to launch 29 models between 2016 and 2020.

“With these seven new models in 2017, Opel will become a completely different brand within the next twelve months,” says the chairman and CEO of the Opel Group, Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann.

Of the seven novelties Opel has presented, the Ampera-E stands out above the rest. This compact is the brand’s first electric vehicle and has a range of no less than 500 km. This is a revolutionary range that beats that of all its rivals in the segment. The Ampera-E will have five doors, and the brand claims it will be spacious and sporty. We will have to wait until spring 2017 for its arrival on the market.

Another of the new models is the renewal of the brand’s bestseller, the Opel Insignia. With more than 900,000 units sold this year, the Insignia will be offered in three versions: Grand Sport, Sports Tourer and Country Tourer. The first of the three saloons will have five doors, a coupé-style configuration and one of the best all-wheel-drive systems in the segment, according to Opel.

For its part, the Insignia Sports Tourer will have a sportier focus, as it will share the same design as the Monza concept of 2013. Among the most notable elements is the sporty front end and its slim headlights. In addition, the interior space has been increased in the rear seats and the boot.

The third version of the Opel Insignia, the Country Tourer, is the most adventurous of all, featuring standard all-wheel drive and a very rugged appearance.

Meanwhile, the Opel Vivaro has received various modifications aimed at increasing comfort.

Opel has also announced the arrival of a new crossover, the Crossland X. This model has a more refined design than previous models in the segment, although space and comfort remain its main selling points.

Finally, Opel has revealed that it will expand its C-segment range with a new crossover. This model will receive a particularly sporty treatment and will join the Astra and Zafira. Its name and other details are not yet known.
