Garagenatelier: panoramic parking spaces in Switzerland

In Switzerland, eight of the strangest and most picturesque parking spaces are located, concrete cubes with a privileged view of the Swiss countryside: Garagenatelier.

I don’t know how comfortable I would feel leaving my Porsche 911, a classic or any other luxury or sports car (which I would surely have, if I could afford this parking space) protected only by a pane of glass and locked inside a concrete box, but it must be said that Garagenatelier, a very special parking facility located in Herdern, Switzerland, is somewhat out of the ordinary, starting from a premise as simple as a concrete cube.

Garagenatelier was a project directed by the Peter Kunz Architektur agency between 1998 and 1999. Located in a rural area of Switzerland, near Lake Constance and with a modernist style, these parking spaces (8 cubes with panoramic views) are an “intervention without distortion of the landscape”. The idea behind the cubes is to serve as a source of natural light for the rest of the parking facility, built under the hill, and the glass panels that conceal the cars (which must be proof against everything) also serve as the entrance to each cube.
