Gazoo Racing will manufacture spare parts for the Toyota Supra A70 and A80
Heritage Parts Project will sell original parts and spare parts for two of the generations of the Toyota Supra
At the Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota announced that Gazoo Racing, through its department dedicated to the maintenance, preservation and restoration of the brand’s historic vehicles, will offer a new catalogue of parts and spare parts for one of its modern classics, the Toyota Supra.
Driven by the appeal of the reborn model, which carries the GR initials in its full name as a badge of identity, the mark that the model has left on automotive culture, in Japan as well as the United States and Europe, has been so strong that, almost 20 years after production of the A80 generation ended, spare parts for the Toyota Supra manufactured and marketed by Toyota will arrive.
The market that after-market suppliers have for vehicles like this one, once the obligatory original spare parts have run out, makes mainstream manufacturers reconsider the return to production of some of the most sought-after components.
Recently, FCA Heritage has also announced the manufacture of some parts for another modern classic, this time one produced in Europe, the Lancia Delta HF Integrale, which will again have a catalogue of original spare parts.
Original parts for the classic Toyota Supra
Be that as it may, Toyota has said that the manufacturing process for a specific group of components will begin in 2020, and that it will be in collaboration with suppliers who will put officially sanctioned, original spare parts for the Toyota Supra on the market.
Broken down by model, for the A70 Supra from 1986 to 1993, Toyota will offer a catalogue of parts including the camshaft, door handles, fuel level gauge, body sealing rubbers and front badges, although it leaves the door open to “other” parts that have not yet been announced. For the A80 Supra from 1993 to 2003, in addition to the door handles, the front headlights and the brake servo will be manufactured again.
Furthermore, it should be noted that Gazoo Racing has set up a form for owners who are looking for other spare parts for the Toyota Supra that were not listed above. The aim is to gauge which other components are required in order to assess the feasibility of returning to production of those items not offered.
