Recent reports from the network indicate that the North American manufacturer sent a memo to all employees working under the Chevrolet brand, in which it is mentioned that the nickname “Chevy” makes the products seem less serious when they are referred to this way.

GM officially stated that the company has no problem when consumers call its products by the nickname Chevy, since this term shows that there is an intense emotional connection between millions of people and the brand.

However, they do not mention any data regarding employees, so it is likely that the company’s workers will not use the affectionate nickname again.

Part of the leaked document states that Chevrolet has begun to enjoy a significant presence in global markets, for this reason it is necessary to move forward and consolidate a consistent brand name for commercial and advertising purposes.

Therefore, whenever an employee is talking with a dealer, customer or media outlet, they must set aside the affectionate nickname and mention that Chevrolet is moving toward the future.
