Gogoro's shared-battery electric scooters arrive in Latin America

Gogoro continues its expansion beyond its home market, and this time Chile and Colombia have been chosen as the first steps into Latin America

Residents of the capital cities of Chile and Colombia will soon be able to enjoy the distinctive scooters from Taiwanese manufacturer Gogoro. Unlike what is usual, Gogoro scooters do not come standard with a battery pack. Instead, they are offered with a shared, swappable battery service. In this way, rather than having to recharge the battery every day when it runs down, Gogoro scooter users simply swap the depleted pack for a charged one at one of the company’s stations, quickly and easily.

For its expansion into Latin America, Gogoro has partnered with Copec, a Chilean energy company founded in 1934 that is currently present not only in its home country but also in other Latin American countries, including Colombia.

In Chile, the battery swaps will take place at Copec’s own service stations, where Gogoro customers will be able to exchange depleted battery packs for charged ones. In Colombia, this will be possible at Terpel service stations, which are also owned by Copec. Initially, Gogoro’s shared battery swap service will be available in the capitals of both Latin American countries, Santiago de Chile and Bogotá.

In this way, Gogoro extends its shared battery swapping station infrastructure beyond Taiwan. In addition to its home country and these two Latin American countries, the company currently also has a presence in Indonesia, Israel, India and the Philippines.

Gogoro also has a new electric scooter

Meanwhile, Gogoro has just unveiled its new Pulse electric scooter in its home market, the new Pulse electric scooter, with first deliveries scheduled for the end of the second quarter of this year. This new scooter stands out for its new smart cockpit with a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen. The company has also highlighted the power of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon QWM2290 SoC it integrates.
