MG subjects its batteries to rigorous tests and achieves 0% degradation
The bet of MG and its batteries: after 35,000 km, the battery retains 100% of its capacity and earns the coveted L0 level. This is what lies behind its platform.

In a world where battery durability has become a key factor when building a vehicle, the MG ZS EV shows that its batteries are not only efficient but also safe. While many fear that batteries have a short useful life and degrade quickly, the batteries of one of the best-selling models of the year have been subjected to 35,000 kilometers of intensive use and to intensive charging treatment, proving that they remain strong and, best of all, that they retain 100% of their capacity.
All MG models come with battery technology backed by the experience of one of the sector’s parent giants, SAIC Motor, which, as if that were not enough, CATL, a global benchmark in vehicle batteries, leads the project. These batteries are not only advanced but also intelligent, equipped with state-of-the-art temperature management systems that optimize their performance, extend their useful life and refine the charging process.

The ZS has been tested in Spain
The setting was Spain, in December. A ZS EV underwent a rigorous analysis after 35,000 kilometers of electric travel. The result? Flawless. The battery showed not the slightest degradation. We are talking about a technology designed to withstand up to 5,000 charge cycles, which is equivalent to more than one million kilometers of pure electric power.
The alliance behind MG
Behind this technological marvel stands a powerful alliance. SAIC Motor and CATL joined forces in 2017 to create an advanced plant dedicated to producing high-quality batteries. With a production capacity of 36 GWh, the facility covers everything from cells to recycling. CATL batteries not only offer fast charging and remarkable energy density, but are also renowned for exceptional longevity, unbeatable reliability and an outstanding environmental commitment.

Under the hood of the MG ZS EV
The ZS’s exceptional performance lies in its new battery packs, available in two capacities, 50.3 kWh and 69.9 kWh, with ranges of 320 km and 440 km respectively (WLTP). The batteries are fitted with large-module cell packs, with 120 cells in the 50.3 kWh pack and 96 cells in the 69.9 kWh pack, which are responsible for the 34% increase in energy density that ensures remarkable power.
Weighing 412 kilos in the 50.3 kWh version and 396.9 kilos in the 69.9 kWh version, the difference lies in the unique chemistry of each cell. In addition, the ZS EV’s internal charging system allows it to reach 80% of its capacity in just 30 minutes, thanks to a maximum charging power of 92 kW.

It is also worth noting that it features an intelligent temperature management system, with liquid cooling and heating, which always guarantees the optimum temperature for the battery pack.
Safety that inspires confidence
These batteries have undergone several safety tests. The batteries of the MG ZS EV bear the coveted “L0 level” and, in the event of thermal runaway, combustion does not spread beyond the battery pack, remaining concentrated in a single place. They also have an IP67 rating for protection against dust and water, certified by the International Electrotechnical Commission. These very good features make these batteries highly efficient units without compromising safety.
