GoodYear tire made from renewable biomass

More good news for ecology in the motorsport world. In this case, it relates to tyres, which also has an impact on our environment. It concerns the world’s first tyre prototype made with Goodyear’s BioIsoprene technology, which has the feature of being renewable. Jesse Roeck, Director of Global Materials Science at Goodyear, commented:
This is the first tyre in the world made with BioIsoprene, and it shows the enormous progress we have achieved by using an alternative to isoprene, which is derived from petroleum, in our production process. The development of BioIsoprene can help reduce the industry’s impact on the environment by applying renewable raw material in the supply chain and making Goodyear less dependent on petroleum derivatives.
BioIsoprene is a renewable raw material, and represents a significant development for the biochemical and rubber industries. Apart from synthetic rubber for tyre production, traditional isoprene is used to manufacture a wide variety of products, such as surgical gloves, golf balls and adhesives. Thus, the potential of BioIsoprene is remarkable across the rest of the economy.
It was first announced in 2008 and the company is seeking to sign commercial and technological distribution and manufacturing agreements to put it on sale in 2013.
