Honda confirms its intention to market an electric NSX
Good news for fans of the Japanese brand. The most iconic supercar from Honda is back, this time with a fully electric propulsion system. Although they will still have to wait three or four years to see it on the roads.
Acura, the premium brand of the Japanese manufacturer Honda, has confirmed its interest in launching an electric supercar inspired by the iconic NSX. According to Shinji Aoyama, Director, Executive Vice President and Representative Executive Officer of Honda, the company plans for the launch of this new model to take place around 2027 or 2028. However, he has also clarified that, while keeping the spirit of the NSX alive, its commercial name could be different.
This new supercar from the Japanese manufacturer will be based on the electric platform of the Honda 0 Series, an architecture that will debut with a new electric saloon from the brand in 2026. This new platform, announced by the company last January at CES in Las Vegas, is characterised by the approach Honda has taken during its development, which the company itself defines as “thinness, lightness and wisdom“. This concept translates into the integration of several of its components, such as electric axles that combine motor, inverter and transmission in a single unit, with a fast-charging capacity of between 10 and 15 minutes to reach 80 percent of its capacity.

From Honda they explain that their goal is to make this platform thinner than that of other competing electric vehicles, thus making it possible for the final design of the vehicle to be somewhat lower and, as a consequence, with a roomier cabin. However, applying this technology to a sports car raises questions about how the vehicle’s dimensions and proportions will be integrated, especially considering that Honda plans to launch saloons and vans on this same platform.
The history of a brand legend
The original NSX, produced between 1990 and 2005, is remembered for its spectacular, streamlined design, accompanied by outstanding track performance from a combustion engine. The second generation of this supercar, presented between 2016 and 2022, adopted a hybrid powertrain with three electric motors, but failed to replicate the success of its predecessor. With this new project, Acura seeks to revitalise the sporting essence of the NSX, bringing it into the electric era that has just begun.

For now, Honda has not revealed any details about the technical specifications expected for this electric supercar, leaving fans of the brand eager to see before long how the Japanese manufacturer is able to redefine the concept of sportiness with the new electric NSX – or whatever it ends up being called.
