The saga surrounding the potentially defective airbags from the Japanese supplier Takata Corp. makes the news once again this month. Honda, Mazda and Nissan, which are the manufacturers that announced today their respective recalls, had already faced this problem before. The number of vehicles affected this time is smaller, but a figure close to three million is still not negligible. We recall that the aim of these recalls is to check whether the airbags could fail to deploy in the event of an accident, but this does not necessarily mean they will fail.

Honda has issued the most widespread recall, as it covers up to 2.03 million of its cars worldwide. In Europe, the models whose owners will receive the notice from the Japanese brand are the Civic, CR-V, Jazz and Stream manufactured between April 2000 and October 2002. The total number of units affected on the old continent amounts to 153,943.

Mazda has recalled 159,807 vehicles worldwide, of which 90,259 are in Europe, the region where the Hiroshima firm fares worst by a wide margin. They correspond to the Mazda RX-8, for which no production years are specified, and to the first generation of the Mazda6, regardless of bodystyle.

Finally, Nissan will review up to 755,000 units globally. However, it has not yet clarified how many of them are cars sold in Europe or which models. In North America, the affected products are the Infiniti FX35 and the Nissan Cube and Pathfinder, while in Japan the airbags of the Nissan X-Trail and the Teana must be checked.
