Hummer will resume production under Chinese ownership

Hummer has not yet said its last word. After the economic fiasco of this wasteful model, Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery, a Chinese company, has acquired the American brand as we discussed recently. And not content with buying it, although both governments have yet to finally approve the deal, they will resume production of the vehicles.

The H3 and H3T models from Hummer are expected to be assembled again in November, or at least that is the plan of our friends at Tengzhong. The best-known model, the H2, will take 3 or 4 months to return to production. The Chinese company’s idea is to start selling as soon as they give the go-ahead to the deal.

Hummer’s production structure will go through an adaptation process, but the most important part for Tengzhong is that production and sales begin as soon as possible in order to make the product profitable: thus the executive organization chart of Hummer and the production plants will be maintained until at least June 2011. Meanwhile, the Chinese company will gradually assimilate the technology.

Tengzhong’s plans include the marketing of a diesel Hummer version. Whether or not these consumption giants are accepted will depend on what new approach they take with the brand. Certainly the previous one, large and powerful cars with monstrous consumption and little technological performance, has failed.
