Hyundai Kona Electric: awarded for its range and value for money
The Hyundai Kona Electric was named “Electric Car of the Year” by the French technology magazine 01net during the 2018 Paris Motor Show.
Since its market debut in summer 2018, various magazines and motoring awards have praised the long range and value for money of the Hyundai Kona Electric. The Asian SUV, the brand’s second fully electric vehicle, has already collected a large number of awards in its short career.
Range, the SUV’s strong point
The electric powertrain of the Kona Electric delivers a range of just over 482 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. However, this rises to as much as 600 kilometres in urban driving. This is one of the features most highly rated by experts, so it could be considered one of the strong points of the South Korean SUV.

The first test of its range took place at the Paris Motor Show. Two journalists and five Hyundai Kona Electric drove a route of from Frankfurt to the French capital. The electrified model reached 506 kilometres at an average of 75 km/h.
In another test, What Car? examined the self-sufficiency capabilities of the Kona Electric. The model from Hyundai achieved 416.8 kilometres with a 64kWh battery pack. The SUV placed first among the 13 “Zero Emission” models tested at the Millbrook Proving Ground in the United Kingdom.

Finally, various magazines such as Autobild and Caradisiac also put the SUV’s range to the test. The German publication managed to add up 613 kilometres, while the French magazine extended its range to 734.4 kilometres. Both magazines completed these journeys on just one full charge.

Hyundai Kona: Electric Car of the Year
Since its market launch, the Asian SUV has not stopped receiving recognition for the value for money and range mentioned above. The first came in July 2018 at the Auto Express New Car Awards. The Hyundai model beat the Nissan Leaf and Volkswagen e-Golf to win “Affordable Electric Car of the Year”.
Likewise, the French online technology magazine 01net named the Kona Electric the “Electric Car of the Year” at this year’s Paris Motor Show. Once again, the relationship between price and quality was decisive in the French publication’s decision.

The Parkers New Car Awards 2019 in the United Kingdom honoured the Asian brand’s electric model as “Best Eco Car”. Range, practicality, design and affordable pricing were the reasons for its award. In addition, the Escape6 Prague Car Festival in the Czech Republic named the “Green Car of the Year” the Kona Electric.
Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President of Marketing and Product for Hyundai Motor in Europe, said that this number of awards makes it “stand out among the other models in its class”. For Hofmann, this “marks a new milestone in the electric segment“.
Without a doubt, a lot of recognition for an electric car that has arrived on the market making a strong impression. We will soon put it through its paces in depth at Top10motor to see if it is as good as it seems…
