Impossible things don't exist: Ferrari is getting ever closer to launching an SUV
Car magazine has revived rumours that Ferrari is considering launching an SUV on the market and sets its arrival in 2021. Apparently, it will be a V8 plug-in hybrid.
The SUV boom has changed the product strategy of manufacturers. Most carmakers are aware of the pull this segment has and use their crossovers as the main argument to boost their commercial performance. So much so that brands such as Lamborghini or Bentley – manufacturers that until now have stuck exclusively to selling luxury models or supercars – have already launched their SUV proposal: the Urus and the Bentayga, respectively. But will the sports car brand par excellence follow – Ferrari – this new trend?
In 2016, Sergio Marchionne flatly ruled out this possibility

If we take into account the 2016 statements of Sergio Marchionne, chief executive of the Fiat group to which Ferrari belongs, when he was asked about the possibility of the Italian firm producing a crossover in the future, we would say that the Italian firm would not fall into this trend under his leadership: “First, they would have to shoot me“, he was emphatic just a year ago. But, according to several rumours, the options for the Transalpine manufacturer to launch an SUV on the market may have taken an unexpected turn.
The truth is that speculation about Ferrari’s hypothetical SUV is not new; it has been in the air for several years, but with the information published by Car magazine a few days ago, it has regained momentum.
Ferrari’s SUV would be a V8 plug-in hybrid
According to the specialist media, Ferrari’s SUV will be called F16X and would not reach the market until 2021. The Italian crossover would incorporate a V8 plug-in hybrid engine offering power close to 600 CV and torque of 881 Nm. Apparently, the model will be built on the same platform as the successor to the GTC4 Lusso, so it would not be surprising if it offered all-wheel drive. It is difficult to make such an early estimate of its price, but some media outlets suggest it will be around 300,000 euros.

Ferrari could double its sales with its new SUV
If Ferrari finally goes ahead with production of this model, criticism will be inevitable. But it should not be forgotten that a car of these characteristics would help it increase its sales considerably. According to forecasts, its commercial performance could double, allowing it to reach 16,000 units sold per year.
