Is the MTM R8 GT3-2 a preview of the rumoured R8 GT3?

Last month we brought you the news that Audi is going to put a road-legal version of its racing R8 on sale, the R8 GT3. But the tuner MTM (which has already got its hands on the R8 before) got there first, having created its own new version of the R8 with more power, the GT3-2, a more purist sports car with rear-wheel drive only.

The MTM model has been raised to 560 hp and would not look out of place on a track, as well as being a car for the road. And with 20-inch tyres, a gigantic rear spoiler and a supercharger with a little more boost, MTM’s R8 could be a close approximation of the version Audi wants of the model.

However, and again according to rumours, Audi’s version would still have four-wheel drive, which, while not detracting from it, would not be as much fun to drive as MTM’s rear-wheel-drive car. So far, very little is known about Audi’s power upgrade, and the only company to have dared to take the R8 further is MTM, which will offer its GT3-2 for about €30,000 on top of the price of the car.
