Is the return of the Nissan Silvia/240SX being ruled out?

For a while we came to believe that the Nissan 240SX could be put back on sale by the Japanese manufacturer, however a recent statement from Nissan United States product planning chief Larry Dominique points to quite the opposite.
Dominique says that the projected volume of 30,000 cars a year is not enough to develop a completely new platform.
For that reason he makes clear that a small coupe based on the Sentra would make more sense, since the investment required to produce it would be much smaller and it would fit perfectly with the market trend.
And although the owners who have fond memories of the Silvia/240SX have not lost hope, it seems we will no longer be discussing the matter.
So all that remains is to recall that the car would have been characterised by a sporty front-wheel-drive design, along with other qualities that would have allowed it to compete with the Mazda MX5.
