Is Toyota planning to launch the Prius as an independent brand?
Rumours about a new brand based on the Prius began a few months ago, but they never became as intense as they are now, after a New York Times journalist interviewed the president of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A, James E. Lentz.
According to the president’s statements, there are favourable opinions within the company that support creating a sub-brand derived from the hybrid, and the company is also working on future models to expand the range.
On the other hand, the senior executive does not speculate about when the new brand could be approved; however, he mentions that next month a meeting will be held in Japan where important decisions will be made.
