Jaguar will build 25 units of the legendary D-Type
Jaguar announces that it will build 25 units of the D-Type following the specifications of the original model, with which the British brand won three consecutive times at Le Mans in the mid-1950s.
After “resurrecting” the legendary E-Type in 2014 and the XKSS in 2016, Jaguar now announces it will produce another of its iconic sports cars: the Jaguar D-Type. The first of the 25 units to be built is presented at the Retromobile show in Paris.
The legendary Jaguar D-Type needs little introduction for car enthusiasts. It earned its legendary status by winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans three consecutive times in 1955, 1956 and 1957, thanks to its numerous technical innovations inspired by the aviation industry, and its six-cylinder XK engine.

Initially, Jaguar planned to build 100 units of the D-Type, but only 75 were produced. By now resuming production of this model, which will be hand-built following the original specifications at Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works in Warwickshire, Jaguar will complete the original plan.

Customers interested in acquiring one of these iconic sports cars will be able to choose between the two versions that were built, with the “Short Nose” or the so-called “Long Nose” long-chassis version, recognisable by its distinctive vertical fin. The price? They will only tell you if you are interested. As a point of interest, each of the 9 announced units of the Jaguar XKSS sold for 1.3 million euros.

In 2016, one of the Jaguar D-Type units that won at Le Mans in 1956 reached over 19 million euros at an auction organised by RM Sotheby’s.
