Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 2022: shorter, with five seats and a plug-in hybrid drivetrain

After several months in which we already knew the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, the American brand has presented the new version of this model of the popular SUV, the Grand Cherokee 4xe. Unlike the version we knew, this one has five seats and, by eliminating the third row of seats, it has reduced the wheelbase. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee 2022 has 126 mm less wheelbase, which now stands at 2,694 mm.

The other novelty of this model is a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, which will help it make the transition towards electric mobility. But what does not change is the off-road essence of the model. This is a car with a powerful and active presence. The grille features a division into seven vertical sections. Alongside them, the LED headlights give it a more modern and attractive look.

The front bumper is quite imposing, with a central grille that dominates the space. The charging point cover is located on the side to make it more accessible. In terms of exterior styling, there is a selection of wheels which, together with the black roof that contrasts with the body colour, give it an imposing look.

The rear also features elongated LED light units, joined together by a black strip with the brand logo. Each trim level of the Grand Cherokee 2022 has a different bumper, to offer a more personalised look.

In the interior we find the same design as in the Grand Cherokee L we already knew. Quality materials and two screens at the front. One controls the Uconnect 5 system and the other faces the front passenger, the first with 10.1 inches and the second with 10.25 inches. The instrumentation is also displayed on a digital screen.

To keep passengers more comfortable, the seats can be adjusted in 16 positions. They feature memory function, lumbar adjustment, massage, and both these and the rear seats have full climate control. As an option, extra storage space can be included in the centre console, as well as a wireless charger.

Hybrid engine for the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe

In addition to the two combustion versions offered for this model, there is the plug-in hybrid version. The combustion engine powering this version is a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol unit. Two electric motors join it, delivering a total output of 375 CV and a maximum torque of 675 Nm.

The battery powering the two electric motors has a voltage of 400 volts and a capacity of 17 kWh. With this, the SUV can cover up to 40 kilometres on electric power, with a total range of 700 kilometres. Power, charge management and electric range are regulated through the E Select modes: Hybrid, Electric and Save.

Technology and safety

In terms of safety, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 2022 includes a suite of driver assistance systems to improve driver safety. Up to 110 features form part of the equipment that enhances safety while driving. In addition, it includes other optional systems such as the night vision camera with pedestrian detection, among others.
