Ken Block dies in a snowmobile accident. Farewell, legend!

The popular American driver known for his spectacular Gymkhanas behind the wheel died this Monday in a tragic accident on his snowmobile.

Whether or not you are a motorsport fan, Ken Block was one of those drivers who left everyone open-mouthed with his mastery behind the wheel. His incredible obstacle-filled circuits across the world turned his Gymkhanas into a true visual spectacle at the controls of his Ford Fiesta, his Mustang, or the last time we got to enjoy one of his videos, with the Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron, since from September 2021 Block was an official driver for Audi.

Sadly, the driver, aged 55, born in the State of California, USA, lost his life this Monday in Utah in an accident while driving his snowmobile. Despite the efforts of the rescue medical teams, they could not save the icon of drifting, rallying and motorsport in general.

The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, where the incident took place, issued a statement saying that at 2:00 p.m. on January 2, 2023, the Wasatch County 911 Center received a call reporting a snowmobile accident in the Mill Hollow area, and clarified that “The driver, Kenneth Block, a 55-year-old man from Park City, Utah, was driving a snowmobile on a steep slope when the machine overturned, landing on top of him,” and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident from the injuries sustained in the impact.

From the Instagram account of The Hooonigans, the creators of Block’s incredible videos and part of the driver’s own team, the death of Block was confirmed, and the American was described as “a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and a husband,” asking for respect for his family’s privacy at this difficult time.

A great racing career

Throughout his renowned career, Ken Block took part in more than twenty editions of the Rally America, and in four editions as a driver for the WRC, two of which were with his Hoonigan Racing Division team. However, his Gymkhana videos from 2008 onward were what catapulted him to worldwide fame.

As it could not be otherwise, we leave you here the latest video of Block driving through the streets of Las Vegas at the controls of the Audi S1 e-tron, leaving us a legacy that will go down in history.
