KIA Sedans Hybrid Cars Salón de Shanghai
Kia K3, a saloon in two versions for the Shanghai Motor Show
The South Korean manufacturer has joined forces with Dongfeng, a Chinese brand, to offer Chinese buyers a saloon in two versions to position itself in China

Like many other brands, Kia is carving out a place in the Chinese market and has opted for the same system that others have tried. That is, partnering with a local manufacturer to move forward in a market that is quite special. The company chosen has been Dongfeng, and together with Kia it has developed the Kia K3. This name may sound familiar from an existing model sold in other markets, but this is a completely new model that will be sold only in China.
To launch this hybrid model, a mid-size saloon has been chosen, which will be sold in two versions: one with conventional engines and another with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. To design this model, everything Chinese drivers demand has been taken into account, so everything is designed to make it a very attractive model for the Chinese market.
Kia K3 petrol and plug-in hybrid version

One of the demands of Chinese buyers is interior space, something important that seems to have been taken into account in this new Kia model. On the outside we find the typical Kia grille, and LED headlights enhance the modern, up-to-date look of the model. Technology is also another of the selling points this model was built around, including its plug-in hybrid variant. The brand has introduced plenty of driver-assistance features, although their functions are limited to real-world driving conditions.
As for engines, the new Kia K3 features a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 1.4-litre turbocharged direct-injection (TGDi) engine. The plug-in hybrid version has slight differences from the variant with combustion engines, to differentiate its hybrid drivetrain. In terms of technology, the infotainment system has added a function to locate the nearest charging points. This model will go on sale in a few months, but, as a reminder, only in China.
