Kia sets a new Guinness World Record for fuel economy with the Optima Hybrid
.
The South Korean car manufacturer Kia has succeeded this week in setting a new Guinness World Record for the lowest consumption in a petrol hybrid model.
The final consumption achieved by the Optima Hybrid was approximately 3.64 litres per 100 km, which represents a reduction of almost 61.37% compared with the official motorway consumption figure set by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).
The challenge consisted of driving through all 48 contiguous US states in 14 days, at a pace of just over 900 km per day, which meant that a total of approximately 12,712 km was covered.
To do so, a total of 5.5 fuel tanks were needed, which allowed a range of close to 2,280 km. In addition, to qualify for the record, the car had to carry two people with their respective luggage
