Lamborghini has officially unveiled, on the occasion of the Los Angeles Auto Show, a new version of its smallest model, the Huracán.

Named Huracán LP580-2, this is the long-awaited variant with rear-wheel drive, which also becomes the entry point into the Lamborghini range.

The Huracán was launched a couple of years ago, succeeding the successful Gallardo, which remained on sale for almost a decade. With a new platform, lighter weight, more power and an even sportier design, the Huracán has enjoyed two years of truly successful performance, sharing components with the second-generation Audi R8.

However, something that has always been lacking in the Huracán is a bit more excitement when driving it fast. All-wheel drive, although it makes it an incredibly effective machine, takes away some of the fun from the driving experience, something that the arrival of the rear-wheel-drive LP580-2 should remedy.

The exterior of the Huracán LP580-2 is almost indistinguishable from its sibling in the range. Only new 19″ alloy wheels and slightly modified bumpers serve as distinguishing features of this model. It is mechanically where the major differences lie.

Keeping the same naturally aspirated 5.2 V10 engine, the LP580-2 has its power reduced by 30 CV compared with the all-wheel-drive variant (the commercial name already gives us clues, LP580-2 versus LP610-4), which has a negative impact on performance. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint is now completed in 3.4 seconds, while top speed is 320 km/h.

In addition, the LP580-2 features recalibrated suspension and steering to suit its new mechanical characteristics. The stability control also works with new parameters to always achieve the best balance between efficiency and driving fun.
