Lexus NX Overtrail, a new version for moving away from the asphalt and venturing onto tracks

Lexus launches the NX Overtrail in Spain so you can tackle tracks with greater confidence, thanks to its higher ground clearance and improved suspension

The second generation of the Lexus NX, a hybrid SUV from the Japanese brand, began its journey in 2021, and we heard little about this model until early last year, when the brand decided to give it an update focused especially on improving the technology in its interior. Now it receives fresh news again, this time with the arrival of the new NX Overtrail version.

The Lexus NX is one of the best hybrid SUVs you can find on the market, as we were able to confirm not long ago when we got behind the wheel of the NX 450h+ powertrain, provided you can afford what it costs. Let’s remember that the Lexus NX is an SUV in the premium segment that also comes very well equipped compared with its direct rivals.

Now Lexus wants to bring out its more adventurous side with the NX Overtrail version, a vehicle that lets us take trips off the asphalt and venture onto tracks, though not overly narrow ones. This more adventurous character is already visible from the outside, since it has been given greater ground clearance: it now sits 15 mm higher than the standard model, and it is also fitted with new-design 18-inch alloy wheels shod with all-terrain tyres.

Besides this, Lexus wants the NX Overtrail to stand out from its siblings, for which a series of cosmetic details have been applied, such as black finishes on the mirror housings, door handles, window surrounds, the wheels themselves, the wheel-arch mouldings, the roof rails, and the frame of the striking double-arrow front grille, which makes it look even more prominent. Its bodywork can be chosen in the existing Olive Green and in the new colour exclusive to this version, Moon Desert, a metallic sandy tone.

Naturally, the interior also has an exclusive colour selection for the NX Overtrail, which comes with sport seats upholstered in Tahara black synthetic leather, while the lumbar support and side bolsters are in Khaki. This latter colour is also used on the door panels and glovebox, while the contrasting scheme continues with new, exclusive inserts finished in fine wood.

The Lexus NX Overtrail gains improved mechanical performance thanks to the fitment of front and rear “Performance Dampers”. Mechanically, the NX Overtrail can only be chosen as a full hybrid, composed of a 2,500 cc petrol engine and two electric motors, one on each axle, producing a power output of 244 CV, which is sent to all four wheels through the e-CVT automatic gearbox.

The new Lexus NX Overtrail can already be ordered in Spain with a starting price from 71,100 euros.
