Making a comeback: Nissan is developing an electric version of the Skyline R32

The Japanese brand is working on a 100% electric variant of its legendary Skyline R32, with the aim of reviving one of the most iconic models in its heritage

Straight from Japan, Nissan has just unveiled the first teaser of one of its most unusual creations to date, not because it is particularly novel, but because it brings back a model as iconic as the Skyline GT-R R32, and not in just any way, but as a 100% electric vehicle.

The news was released through the brand’s official YouTube channel in Japan and its various social media accounts, in a video featuring the rear end of the R32, accompanied by the roar of its original exhaust on startup and its taillights switching on. This gives us an idea that the project cannot be very advanced yet.

The teaser at the heart of this news

At the end of the short video, which lasts about 20 seconds, the main image shows the R32 EV lettering, and also announces the news with the motivational message of taking on the challenge of building an electric prototype of the Skyline GT-R R32.

This curious project, which for many amounts to sacrilege, stems from the desire of an engineer recently joined to the company with a great admiration for the GT-R. In this announcement, this engineer declared the great dream it represents for him to build a more exciting car, applying the latest electrification technology he currently works on to a car as legendary as the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32.

Awaiting further details

For now, Nissan has not offered any additional information about whether this model will go beyond being a prototype, what its estimated power range will be, or whether it could truly be considered a worthy successor to a model as beloved by many as the R32.
