Maserati Karif: a premium, compact SUV
With the launch of the Levante three years ago, Maserati made its debut in the SUV segment for the first time. Now, with the Karif, it aims to take another step forward by improving its offering in the luxury SUV segment.
The prestigious Italian brand tried, unsuccessfully, to take on the coveted Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes GLE or BMW X5 and X6. The Levante was not a total failure, however, it was positioned far behind its competitors.
While its direct rivals offer more compact SUVs to meet customers’ needs, Maserati has fallen short in this respect, until now, clearly. The Maserati Karif could become a more compact, elegant, technological and futuristic option to compete in the compact luxury SUV segment.

The Karif features a truly dynamic exterior design. At the front of the model, the brand’s signature can be seen right on its grille. Furthermore, the combination of fog and cornering lights, together with a design featuring fine lines on its bonnet, gives the Karif an appearance that conveys aggressiveness and power from every angle.
The lines that run along the entire bodywork have been specially designed to save space and focus on achieving a more compact look, without, of course, neglecting the characteristics of any good SUV worth its salt.

Special attention to the wheels, which appear to be at least 19 or 20 inches, standing out for their size in the overall structure of this beautiful SUV.
As for its engine, we have no such data at the moment, however, we are confident that if this project goes ahead, the Karif will have at least 500 CV of power.
A compact SUV from Maserati would give the Italian manufacturer the opportunity to enter a much broader territory within the segment, allowing it to compete directly with successful rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC, the BMW X3, X4 or the Porsche Macan, among others.

We don’t know whether it will convince buyers of this very particular segment or not, however, given the growing trend for this type of vehicle on the market, we have no doubt it will certainly win more than one admirer.
For my part, as far as the design is concerned, I think it is a real success, as they manage to achieve that distinctive touch that seems so hard to obtain today within the segment.
We’ll see whether the project ends up becoming a reality, but for now, the truth is it looks very promising.
