The Japanese manufacturer will offer many new features at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, which will open to the public from 4 March to 14. It had previously announced that the redesigns of the Mazda 5 and the 6 would be unveiled at the event, and now another new feature must be added: a limited edition of the small roadster MX-5, celebrating its 20th birthday.

The Japanese roadster can boast of being the best-selling of all time, and it has good reason to. To commemorate this important milestone, Mazda has equipped the MX-5 with chrome trim on the edge of the front grille, the door handles and the surround of the front headlights; it also features silver paint for the area housing the fog lights, side badges reading “20th Anniversary” above the indicators, and specific 17-inch alloy wheels.

The colours available for this limited edition will be three: Soul Red Crystal, Crystal White Pearl and a new one exclusive to the anniversary series, Aurora Blue. Likewise, the cabin will feature some elements painted in the same colour as the bodywork to match the black of the rest. In addition, a strut brace is added for a sportier drive.

The engine that will power the MX-5 20th Anniversary will be the 1.8-litre, 126 CV unit. It will be available by default with a soft top and will include an exclusive metal plaque bearing the number of the unit built. Specifically, 2,000 units will be produced, and all of them will be destined for Europe. Mazda has not yet announced the prices of the special edition.
