Mazda3 2019: range and prices in Spain for the compact that wants to be premium

Mazda wants to compete with premium compacts with its new Mazda3, which has a Spanish price from 23,415 euros, with very complete equipment.

Mazda presented its new Mazda3 at the recent Los Angeles Motor Show. The new generation of the Japanese compact seeks to climb the rungs in the compact segment, and no longer even aims at the Volkswagen Golf. Its plans are to compete directly with the most select offerings in the category, and to be a real alternative to the premium brands, that is, to the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes A-Class.

To do so, Mazda’s strategy is to keep its distinctive traits in terms of design, technology and quality. It offers a car with a starting price higher than the compacts from more mainstream brands: from 23,415 euros (pending possible discounts). This is the range available in the brand’s configurator.

Mazda3 Origin Skyactiv-G 122 CV: 23,415 euros
Mazda3 Origin Skyactiv-D 116 CV: 25,415 euros
Mazda3 Evolution Skyactiv-G 122 CV: 24,315 euros
Mazda3 Evolution Skyactiv-G 122 CV Aut.: 26,115 euros
Mazda3 Evolution Skyactiv-D 116 CV: 26,315 euros
Mazda3 Zenith Skyactiv-G 122 CV: 26,115 euros
Mazda3 Zenith Skyactiv-G 122 CV Aut.: 27,915 euros

As you can see, with equal equipment the price of the Mazda3 with the 116 CV diesel engine is 2,000 euros higher than the 2.0 petrol. A difference we find high, especially considering the good performance offered by Mazda’s petrol engines.

The automatic gearbox option is available from the second trim level, only with the petrol engine, at an extra cost of 1,800 euros. As for the top trim, for now it is not combined with the diesel engine.

Mazda3: a very complete equipment list

One of the features of the new Mazda3 is its unusually complete equipment for this category, which largely justifies a high starting price.

Thus, the Mazda3 Origin comes as standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED front and rear headlights, an 8.8-inch multimedia screen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, 7-inch digital instrumentation, a head-up display projecting information onto the windscreen, dual-zone climate control, rain and light sensor, and rear parking sensors. Among the standout safety and driver-assistance features, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control (radar-based), traffic sign recognition, rear traffic detector, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning with prevention are also standard.

From here on, the Evolution trim costs 900 euros more, and adds to the Origin equipment privacy rear glass, front parking sensors, rear-view camera, keyless entry and an interior mirror with anti-dazzle system.

The top version is the Zenith trim, which raises the price by 1,800 euros over the Mazda3 Evolution. For that investment you get a Mazda3 that adds, on top of everything above, 18-inch wheels, full adaptive LED headlights, a high-end BOSE sound system with 12 speakers, and specific decorative details for both the exterior and interior.

Future versions of the new Mazda3

For now, the only way to configure the new Mazda3 is with the 2.0 petrol engines of 122 CV and the 1.8 diesel of 116 CV. Later the range will add the interesting Skyactiv-X engine, with revolutionary technology to reduce consumption, as it can operate by combining the principle of diesel engines (compression ignition) and that of petrol engines (spark ignition from a spark plug).

By summer the three-box body version will arrive, the Mazda3 Sedan, measuring 4.66 metres, about 13 cm more than the five-door. In the longer term, hybrid versions are expected, something already considered when developing the new platform used by the Mazda3.
