McLaren 600LT: a supercar for the road and the track

The new McLaren 600LT becomes the most radical model in the brand’s history, thanks to its 600 CV of power and a weight of less than 1,250 kg.

The fourth McLaren in history to carry the LT (Long Tail) designation, which identifies its most extreme versions, is the new McLaren 600LT. The name has its origin in the “long tail” version of the McLaren F1 GTR from the late 1990s.

As radical as they come, the new McLaren 600LT is a supercar homologated for the road, developed to run on the track.

But let’s leave history aside and get to what the McLaren 600LT offers, which is expected to make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. For now, here is a teaser in video form, in which you can see the McLaren 600LT in action:

Power and lightness: the 600LT’s secret is no secret

Every supercar manufacturer has this equation in mind when developing a supercar. In the McLaren, the equation appears to have a very simple solution: the 600 CV of power from the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine – with a maximum torque of 620 Nm – and a total weight of just 1,247 kg result in a power-to-weight ratio of 2.07 kg/CV. The McLaren 600LT is not only more powerful than the 570S Coupé, it is also 96 kg lighter, despite being almost 75 mm longer.

The chassis tuning of the McLaren 600LT is clearly geared towards track use, but without forgetting the minimum dose of refinement and comfort that let you arrive at your track day as fresh as a daisy. New aerodynamics for greater downforce, Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres, a new exhaust system with vertical outlets… the 600LT does not hide its racing side even in the cabin, with sports seats derived from those used in the McLaren P1.

The price of the McLaren 600LT in the United Kingdom, including taxes, is £185,000, about 210,000 euros. McLaren notes that this price includes a Track Day at a circuit with a specialist instructor from the brand. Production will start in October 2018 and will run for 12 months as a limited edition, although the number of units has not yet been revealed. Let us recall that after the success of the McLaren 675LT Coupé presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2015, the brand unveiled the 657LT Spider, of which a limited edition of 500 units went on sale and sold out in just two weeks.
