Mercedes-Benz delivers 20 units of the eActros 600 in Germany
The confidence shown by companies such as Contargo, which has just received the first units of the eActros 600 from Mercedes-Benz, demonstrates that sustainable transport of heavy goods is already feasible today.
German logistics company Contargo has just received, as announced, 20 units of the new electric truck eActros 600 from Mercedes-Benz. Contargo thus becomes one of the first companies to expand its fleet with a significant number of units of the electric truck from the star brand for long-distance freight transport.
As we have already reported here at HighMotor on previous occasions, series production of the eActros 600 began at the end of November, which has allowed Mercedes-Benz to carry out the first deliveries in Germany before the end of the year. The German manufacturer plans to deliver around 50 units of its new electric truck before the start of 2025. On December 20, Contargo received 20 of these 50 series-production units, which will be used immediately by the company for container transport.

Contargo was founded in 2004 by the Rhenus Group and carries out all of its operations in the logistics sector. The company currently employs 1,280 people and counts shipping companies, freight forwarders and other logistics providers among its main clients. Contargo’s transport network extends mainly across Germany, but also reaches other European countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Poland and Switzerland.
The electrification of Contargo’s fleet is a one-way road
The company has been preparing for years for the gradual electrification of its transport vehicle fleet. With the acquisition of these 20 new units of the eActros 600, Contargo has already increased to 60 the number of electric trucks in operation and plans to have 90 in total by the summer of 2025.
Sitting behind the wheel of the new eActros 600 from Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, has not been a novel experience for some of Contargo’s drivers, since a test unit has been in use since last April on a two-shift shuttle service between the port of Wörth am Rhein and several loading and unloading points in Germany.

Alongside Contargo, other German companies such as August Gschwander Transport, Blue Känguru, Brummer Logistik, Contrail-Transport, Denkinger Internationale Spedition, Ralf Reyser Transporte & Logistik, Schade Logistic and Wessels Holding are also expected to receive some units of the eActros 600 in the coming days.
Mercedes-Benz states that it already has more than 2,000 firm orders for the eActros 600, so activity at the German plant in Wörth am Rhein will be frenetic over the coming months as efforts continue to scale up production.
